I
have been in the health insurance business since 1988, personally
meeting one-on-one with thousands of individuals and families
over the years. I’ve also served as Vice President of a consulting

agents, I was ready to get away from working with such prima-donnas.
I wanted to get back to helping the average American, those who

Though
this may sound like I'm blowing hot air, the simple fact is that
I get far more personal satisfaction out of helping others
than I do from getting a paycheck to do so. I'm not
looking to work in a soup kitchen or anything like that, but from
the comforts of my office (or wherever I am) I find I'm able to
simply share the knowledge I've gained over the past 18 years.
I like to put things in a simplified and clear way so that the
average person who knows little about health insurance can find
it easy to understand. Though sometimes they do not like
the reality that they face, I feel good when I help someone sort
through a myriad of options, and am able to help them find the
best possible choices for their personal scenario. Often
times, the solution I come up with is something they would have
never thought to do themselves, no matter how much they know,
or how much homework they do (my outside the box thinking can
be invaluable).
Fortunately
my life is about more than just health insurance. In my
spare time I enjoy a career as a freelance writer, specializing
in covering the music and entertainment business. I’m proud
to say that I now have over 1,000 published stories. I write
a feature column ("Friend Named Fred") in each
issue of An
Honest Tune. This magazine started as a spin
off of another one of my projects, The Panicle, a newsletter devoted
to covering the early stages of the career of Widespread Panic,
the Athens, GA super band. (I’m kind of considered
the official video historian of the band, as evidenced in their
2002 documentary "The Earth Will Swallow You," which
contains footage I had shot more than a decade ago.)
I
have decided to put up an archive of my most popular articles
in the On the Road with Fred
section of this website. There you’ll find my thoughts
and musical experiences with Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh, Tishamingo,
Les Paul, Robert Plant, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Gov’t Mule…
