Sometimes people
ask me, Fred, why in the world would anyone want to deal with
health insurance all day every day.
While it is
true that I do devote 50 hours each week to help make it easy for
others to find the best possible health insurance for their needs,
there are actually 168 hours in each week, and I am the sort who
believes in getting the very the most out of the time I am given
in life. When I answer the question above by sharing that
I am also a freelance journalist with thousands of stories published
by dozens of local and national publications, and a live music fanatic
willing to travel the globe to see the best live music being performed
on any given night (often attending 100 concerts each year)
sometimes people want to more. Particularly if theyre
music fans.
Friend
Named Fred is my monthly newsletter sharing
news and views about some of the best live music Ive been
fortunate to hear.
The title of
this newsletter is also the title of a feature column Ive
written for An
Honest Tune magazine for a number of years. The
phrase originally came from the song Coconuts by the
band Widespread Panic. I had the good fortune of becoming
very close friends with the band shortly after they formed, and
would later write the bands first newsletter, The Panicle.
Since I was around the band so much in the early days of their career,
it was a commonly held assumption that I was in fact the friend
named Fred mentioned in the songs. While I wish I could
claim that as true, the song was actually the first song ever written
by John Bell, before the band had formed, and long before we met.
However, the moniker has stuck with me over the years, and Im
proud to now count you amongst the many readers and friends Ive
grown to know and love over the years.
I hope you enjoy
your Friend Named Fred,
and I look forward reading your feedback.
Fred
